Ichiko Aoba - Windswept Adan

ong-awaited reissue of the Japanese singer-songwriter and multiinstrumentalist’s critically acclaimed masterpiece — the album that firmly
established Ichiko Aoba on the global stage.
Windswept Adan, Aoba’s seventh studio album, was originally released in 2020.
Early vinyl pressings have been out of print for over 18 months and now are in
high demand on the secondary market. This reissue is pressed on black eco-mix
vinyl, in an effort to be as sustainable as possible.
Marking a significant departure from her earlier, more solitary works, Aoba
collaborated with composer Taro Umebayashi to craft a mesmerising and richly
imaginative concept album that moves fluidly between ambient psych-folk,
chamber classical, and jazz-inflected composition.
Conceived as the soundtrack to an imaginary film, Windswept Adan follows a
young girl exiled from her homeland to the mythic island of Adan — a lush,
otherworldly place filled with strange creatures, abundant flora and fauna, and no
spoken language. Its orchestral textures and vivid sound design create an
immersive, cinematic world.
The iconic cover art reflects the album’s intricate world-building, brought to life by
creative director Kodai Kobayashi following extensive research trips to the
southern islands of Japan.
Across 2025 and 2026, Aoba will have performed on five continents, gracing
prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House,
and Walt Disney Concert Hall, regularly selling out 1,000–3,000-capacity venues
in markets worldwide.
Critically lauded and beloved by fans, the album has achieved true cult status,
fuelled by word-of-mouth and online enthusiasm — it was the #1 album for 2020
on Rate Your Music and a user score of 88 on Album of the Year
