Mina Moore - When The Spirit Says Sing b/w Heavy Load

Minneapolis singer Mina Moore returns with Heavy Load b/w When The Spirit Says Sing, a limited 7" (300 copies) and her first solo release since 2018. After years on the road as a backing vocalist, she returned home and linked up with producer Cy Pierpont and guitarist Blair Krivanek, familiar from her past collaborations with Sonny Knight & The Lakers.

These sides land in a warmer, more stripped-down space than her earlier neo-soul leanings. “Heavy Load” rides a laid-back groove—set by an acoustic guitar pulse, with strings, Hammond, and a rhythm section that stays locked in, drawing on the feel of early ’70s soul. Somehow both loose and steady—completely unforced and easy enough to carry through the summer.

On the flip, “When The Spirit Says Sing” is deeply intimate—one voice, a tremolo-soaked guitar, and a room that surrounds the listener. An old spiritual, the song carries a familiar paradox: dark and heavy, yet somehow uplifting, even cathartic.
